Objective

In March 2024, Hulu's complete programming catalog became available for all Disney+ bundle streaming service subscribers. With it came award-winning Hulu Originals, more than 1,200 movies, and more than 1,300 shows.

Over 95 live-streamable sports channels are now available on Disney+ through Hulu and ESPN+. To promote the new ocean of content available to potential customers, Hulu partnered with Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler to create a campaign where Jimmy Butler's butler could learn about all of Hulu's offerings.

The promo utilized humor, puns, and the good nature of Jimmy Butler to invite viewers to join Hulu's service and dive into the wealth of offerings available.

Strategy

Hulu worked with Jimmy to build a premise that played on his own name, introducing his 'butler' (played by Joseph Marcell, famous for playing The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air's butler Geoffrey Butler) as they learn all about Hulu's wide new range of premium quality service offerings.

Results

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the Walt Disney Company reported that Hulu had 52 million paid subscribers.

22% of Americans watch sports on Hulu + Live TV. As of May 22, 2024, Hulu had 4.5 million subscribers to its Hulu Live TV bundle.
