Objective

In April 2024, BODYARMOR Sports Drink established a partnership as the OFFICIAL SPORTS DRINK of the NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE with the goal of driving increased brand awareness and converting new consumers.

As one of the marquee sports properties in the North America, the National Hockey League has a growing and highly engaged base of younger consumers. Leveraging the brand’s newly inked partnership with the NHL, BODYARMOR Sports Drink has been working to create innovative activations that tap into sport’s dynamic culture and ultimately resonate with hockey fans and strengthen its presence within the hockey community.

Strategy

Days ahead of the 1st game of the 2024-25 NHL Season, BODYARMOR hosted 6-foot-7 power forward and New York Rangers fan-favorite Matt Rempe for a visit to the brand’s HQ in NYC.

Stopping by for a quick trip that initially included only a meet-and-greet and Q&A session with BODYARMOR employees, the team saw an opportunity to leverage his time at the office to create unique and engaging social content.

Taking advantage of his brief time at BODYARMOR HQ, the team had the heavy-hitting Rempe partake in a ‘This is SportsCenter’-style content skit – blending the stereotypical office environment with conventional hockey scenarios to create a humorous piece of content that showcases what a day in the life would look like if the NHL forward really worked at BODYARMOR. Enter Matt Rempe, Office Temp.

Between long work meetings and unjamming the printer to setting the thermostat to the chilly, ideal ice rink temperature, Rempe made himself feel right at home as our newest BODYARMOR temp employee.

Results

What began as a typical office visit swiftly transformed into an opportunistic content capture that went viral and amassed MORE THAN 500,000 VIEWS on Instagram within the first 24 hours of going live. In total, the BODYARMOR x Matt Rempe content:

While the video performed exceptionally well on our owned Instagram and TikTok channels, it also gained significant reach on X and received recognition & additional press coverage from top-tier media outlets including Bleacher Report, Yahoo Sports, The New York Post, The Hockey News and more!

Additionally, NHL fans and insiders repeatedly re-shared it across social media platforms, resulting in hundreds of thousands of additional views on X, Instagram and TikTok. Prominent NHL reporters and influencers such as Mollie Walker (The New York Post), Jonny Lazarus (Bleacher Report), and the #1 hockey podcast Spittin Chiclets, reshared the content on their feeds, driving increased buzz and awareness for BODYARMOR Sports Drink just head of the new NHL season.
